I have owned this camcorder for six months and I give it a thumb up on performance and excellence. It delivers clear, crisp, sharp images when played back on high definition televisions. The single frame digital still pictures are vivid in color with good contrast. You can shoot still pictures while the camcorder is recording. It offers a lot of versatility even to a novice cinematographer.
The audio is very well balanced and reproduces a clear near perfect reproduction of the sounds it is picking up. The 45x digital zoom is more than incredible. I shot a scene of a fishing village in Rotan Honduras from 5 miles away. To the naked eye you could see specks of something along the shore line but when you kick in the digital zoom feature you saw the sail boats anchored away from shore, huts, buildings, traffic on the street with amazing clarity.
The camera comes with a built in movie light. If you set it on automatic the light pops on when the daylight starts to fade way. I even shot it in complete darkness with the movie light on and it has a range of 30 feet and that is pushing it. My recording time was less than an hour on a full charged battery.
The down side of the camcorder is that is shoots a small format. Your pictures look fantastic up to 8 ˝ by 11 color prints but start to turn grainy for sizes larger than this. The computer software used to download your images is somewhat confusing and sloppy compared to other video software on the market and it may take a little more time to download the camera to other video programs.
You need a second battery. The camcorder says 119 minutes on a full charge, probably if you are in the standby mode, but shooting, movie light, and playbacks eat the power. Rough estimate is about forty minutes to an hour of continuous use meaning on off, on off before the camcorder goes in the red zone.
I would recommend this camcorder if I was shopping for one and did not wish to spend a whole lot of money but wanted preserve precious moments. It is good quality camcorder at an unbeatable price. Buy it! You'll like it!
