This is NOT a recently manufactured unit - it is from 2009.
Returned first one to Beach Camera..had been opened and used although posed as New. Second one performs the same as the first, so even though first opened, poor performance not due to being used.
- narrow blur on recording through the middle right to left,
- does NOT record true images, morphing out top to bottom and in side-to-side - objects appear slightly taller slimmer like a fun house mirror image,
- recorded bridal shower in mid low-light restaurant..came out very grainy and low quality
- Records in MOV format, which will NOT play on Windows Media. You can change extension to mpeg or avi and video will pay, but why should you have to?
- Software completely sucks. I have an HP media center laptop running vista SP2 but the import/playback on PC doesn't work (didn't work for first unit either) keeps warning "import failure". Can only view on "PC" after changing extension through the file in windows explorer on laptop
- you have to jump through hoops (menus) to change recording from internal memory to SDHC card
- once in playback on PC mode you cannot exit without disconnecting, so if you want to try and check something on the unit you can't.
I DO NOT recommend this item to anyone wanting to record memories because images aren't true. Use it as a play thing, gift for young person, or for learning to record on a camcorder, then get one that has adult use functionality.
Very disappointed, and will return this second unit (even at my own expense) if possible. Will also not buy JVC again, regardless of Consumer Reports ratings - I'll stick to Sony, Samsung or Canon.
