Just a note: I'm no audiophile. I'm content with what works for myself as a casual music listener. I don't care THAT much about sound quality- if it replicates my music well enough, I'll enjoy it. Basically, I'm an easy to please person.
But, I have used many different brands of earbuds in the past. I can safely say a few things about this product compared to the others, as well as my personal preferences. I was content with my jbud earbuds, but in just a few months after owning them, the left ear broke due to weak wiring. This is partially my fault- I sleep with my earbuds in and occasionally roll over and lie on top of the cord. I also transport my iPod Touch in a pocket smaller then what it can fit in, and sometimes the cord gets stuffed in it- which ended up weakening the cord and breaking the left ear. I'm not going to make the same mistakes with these Marshmallows, but I am hoping they are a bit more durable then the jbud ones.
Memory foam earpieces are so much better, at least in MY ears, compared to silicone or that... other kind of squishy foamy stuff that I don't know what it's called. (Sorry. I know that probably detracted from my credibility, but I really don't know what they're called.) The isolation in these Marshmallow earbuds are much better then any other I've tried, from the 20-dollar Jbud ones to this other Wal-Mart brand that I owned for a while before the jbud earbuds- I forgot the name of the brand. These Marshmallows fit perfectly in my ears, they're the most comfortable and isolating of any that I've had.
A story: I was in our local coffee shop, which is a tiny little place with many tables that are so close together to the next that the backs of your chair can sometimes touch the person sitting in the table near yours. And the particular day I was there, the whole place was rather packed, and everyone was chattering away. I leaned back, put my earbuds in, and let my music play. Let me tell you, the sounds of the people in the room were so muffled that after a while I forgot I could even hear them, and let my music dominate. In any other situation, if I'm focusing on my music, I can't even hear people trying to talk to me a few feet away unless they get my attention.
Don't be fooled though, I can still hear the muffled voices through them. If music isn't playing, I can hear it somewhat clearly if I'm paying attention. But if you don't think about the voices around you or other sounds, and just let yourself get lost in the music, you won't be paying attention to anything else. It will be just as though you weren't hearing it at all. At least, this is my experience.
The sound quality seems about the same as most other earbuds I listen to, but I am freakishly easy to please and they all sound fine to me. I can hear my music just as I want to hear it, and that's about as good as I need.
Anyway, if these break some time I'm definitely getting them again- I think this is the brand I will stick with. It's cheap and comfortable and isolating, and that's exactly what I need.
